What Is Mortons Neuroma?

This foot condition is due to nerve damage within the toes from swelling and damage to the nerves becoming trapped in-between the toes. Most common the third and fourth toes are affected as here two nerves combine. The main problem is tight footwear especially in the shoe box area.

What are the symptoms of Morton`s neuroma?

Numbness and tingling and burning sensation.
Pain levelling from a mild to severe sharp pain.
The pain increases over time becoming more regular and intense. This is due to the nerve damage occurring.
Pins and needles in your front area of the foot.
Radiating pain moving forward and backwards along the foot.

Morton`s Neuroma Causes

Narrow pointed heeled shoes
Fallen or Flat feet , due to the feet rolling over and the toes nerves become trapped.
Too tight fronted shoes.

Best Morton`s Neuroma Treatment

1- Take a good look at footwear and avoid tight, pointed shoes.
2- Avoid socks or hosiery that is restricting movement and too tight.
3- Remove shoes and try massaging toes to relax and release toe pressure
4- Use metatarsal pads these cushion the metatarsal bones and nerves running to the toes.
5- Try a anti inflammatory product like ibuprohen or a natural foot cream like Gehwol Green
6- A toe crescent of lift can gently lift the toes removing strain and pressure.
7- If your feet are flat or have a fallen foot arch use a professional orthotic arch support.

Although Mortons Toe cannot be cured there are definate measures you can take to ease the discomfort and pain whever you re-address your footwear, use a support or orthotic and i personally advise patients to try anti-inflammatory gels which relax the inflamed nerves and relaxes the muscles and ligaments around the toes.
